Yarn Wrapped Letter

Hey friends!

About a month ago, I bought tons of yarn.  Why?  Well, they were on a crazy sale and you can use them for so many things!  My first project?  A yarn wrapped letter.

With that said, here is the tutorial!

Yarn Wrapped Letter

1.  Grab some cardboard and cut out the letter of your choice.  I just found a giant "S" online.  Then, I printed it, cut it, and traced it onto the cardboard.  Make sure you also have cardboard about an inch to an inch and half thick to give your letter its dimension.

2.  Tape it all together!  As you can see, I just used blue painter's tape.  It does not matter what color tape you use, you will be covering it with yarn anyway!

3.  With your glue gun and yarn, cover the ends by gluing the yarn as close as possible as seen in the picture.  If your tape is showing, add a few more yarn strands to make sure it is all covered.  Once you are done with the first end, do the other one as well.

4.  Start wrapping your letter!  Just keep wrapping, wrapping, and wrapping until every blank space is covered and looking "yarny"! I did not glue every single piece... You do it so tightly that it does not need the glue.  You may run into a few spots where you do need it though. Keep your gun handy!

5.  You are all done! Good job! Your letter looks great and now it is time to show it off!  Once we move into our apartment, this will hang on our gallery wall in the living room!

After wrapping my S, I also decided to take on some wine bottles to go on our mantle and kitchen bar.  Here is how the first one turned out...

Now I need to get my hands on the other nine bottles I have.  I still have green, orange, and brown yarn to play with!  Happy crafting, y'all!

Trendy Tuesday 14!

Trendy Tuesday is BACK this week!

What am I loving right now?  Well, let me share it with you!

  1. New clothes!!!  All the clothes in the pictures are from Old NavyForever 21, and Walmart (believe it or not).  Without sales and clearance, everything collectively would have been $148.  I got it all for $60!!!  I cannot believe I went shopping and actually enjoyed it.  I am not a shopper (unless it is for shoes and home stuff), I refuse to try clothes on, and I hate being in one store for more than 30 minutes.  I am a go in and get out kind of girl... But not this weekend!  I am becoming a girl, ladies and gentleman... It is a scary thing.
  2. Yogurtini- We found another great froyo joint!  The same friends that got us addicted to Yogurtland got us addicted to this one too.  While Yogurtland is STILL my absolute favorite, Yogurtini is definitely in the number two spot.  Yuuuum!
  3. Fourth of July Wreath - I know I have said this once more, but I really love this wreath I made!  It is hanging on the front door of my MIL/FIL's house and I love seeing it!  I got the tutorial from Sky over at Capital B.  It was easy to make, just a bit time consuming.  Husband loves it too... Duh, it's Amerrrican (as he would say).
  4. Tea Rex - Really?  Can you see how funny and cute this is? I want to get a clear mug JUST so I can get this for my tea!!  It is only $14 which I think is worth it if you use it on a very regular basis like I would!  So stinkin' awesome.
  5. Herb Cubes - Okay, I have a hold up when it comes to buying fresh herbs.  I love seasoning things with fresh herbs, but Husband tends to dislike it.  So, if I buy some, it usually gets old and wilted by the time I can actually use it.  However, I stumbled upon this pin on Pinterest (pinned from The Gardener's Eden)... My use of fresh herbs is restored!!!  Simply tear off herbs, place in ice cube trays, and fill with olive oil, coconut oil, water (or whatever you use).  Slip trays into the freezer and after 24 hours, put them in labeled Ziploc bags... BAM!  Love this!
Happy Tuesday, y'all!

Gluten Free Cherry Pie

Happy weekend, folks!

Let me first start by saying that I hate baking in high altitude.  For one, it completely scares the junk out of me because you have to adjust measurements.  For another, most things that I try baking up here, end up crappy.  Really.  I usually steer clear from homemade cakes, pies, cookies, and brownies.

I know... I should put my big girl pants on and go for it in the kitchen with all the recipes that scare me up here.  But, I don't.  Okay, I do, but it takes me awhile to get brave.  If it were cooking, there is nothing that scares me- I will do it!  Baking is a whole different ball game.  Sister was given the talent of baking, not me!

With that said...

As I promised, here is the recipe for my Gluten Free Cherry Pie.  I'm not a big pie fan (unless it is pecan, pumpkin, or key lime), so I only had one bite... However, everyone else that has had this absolutely loves it! Needless to say, we came home with about two slices left and those soon disappeared thereafter.

This recipe is simple and easy.  Probably not your healthiest option (what pie really is?), but for the Celiacs out there, you might really enjoy this!

Gluten Free Cherry Pie

Ingredients:
  • 1 cup Gluten Free Bisquick
  • 1 can (21 oz.) Gluten Free Cherry Pie Filling
  • 5 Tbsp. Cold Butter
  • 3 Tbsp. Cold Water
Directions:
  1. Preheat oven to 425 degrees.  Spray 9-inch round pan with non-stick cooking spray.
  2. Mix Bisquick and butter together in a bowl.  Take a fork and separate butter pieces.  Continue to mix until mixture looks like breadcrumbs.  Mix in water (you can add a bit more water if 3 Tbsp is not quite doing the job).
  3. Form dough into a ball with hands.  Press dough on bottom and up the sides of pie pan.
  4. Bake for 10 to 12 minutes (or until lightly browned).  Remove from oven and let cool.  Bring oven temperature to 350 degrees.
  5. Once partially cooked pie crust has been cooled, pour in cherry filling.
  6. Bake for 15 minutes then cover pie edges with aluminum foil so they do not burn.  Continue to bake for 30 to 40 minutes.  Remove from oven and let cool until serving time.
  7. Enjoy!

Easy enough, huh?  Now, if you wanted to add the crust cover that is usually on cherry pies, go for it!  Just use the same recipe for the crust.  Living at high altitude tends to make things a bit drier here, so mine did not turn out the way it should have... Hence the pie crumble topping.  I also added cinnamon to the filling and topped the pie with some cinnamon sugar.  I love cinnamon! :)

Have a fantastic weekend!  Looks like ours will be a hot one, but nevertheless, it will be thoroughly enjoyed!

Happy pie making!

Weekend Recap and More

So, normally, I would be posting "Trendy Tuesday".  But, as I sit here watching "Keeping Up with the Kardashians" while trying to choose a wedding picture to have printed to go on a wall in our new apartment, I do not really want to.

Maybe I am being lazy.  Maybe I am kind of over the whole weekly routing writing.  Or maybe, I just do not want to. Ha!  Who knows...

Weekend recap in Instagram pictures!

I made my very first pie from scratch.  Well, mostly from scratch.  On top of that, I made it gluten-free! I am told it was good though I only had one bite... Not much of a pie fan unless it is pecan pie or pumpkin pie! Recipe is coming this week!

I made the wreath you see in between our weekend activities with friends, family, and Dog.  I found this wreath awhile ago on Pinterest from Sky over at the Capital B blog.  My MIL found it again a couple of weeks ago and asked if I would make it for her... Absolutely, I did!  I love crafts so much, especially wreaths!

In other news, WE MOVE INTO OUR NEW APARTMENT IN 2 1/2 WEEKS!  We haven't had our own place in 8 months... 8 MONTHS. Words cannot describe how HAPPY and ANXIOUS I am to get my hands on those bare walls and get my inner designer going!  Husband is getting out of helping me move thanks to Army... Smh.  My goal is to have the whole apartment put together and looking homey before he gets home!

I have had some friends ask me if I will do a home tour once we are in and settled... I may do it.  There will not be painted walls or many fancy things going on, but hey, why not do it?  Also, I am working on an IKEA post... YAY IKEA!

I know this post is random and all over the place (kind of like me, most of the time), but hey... I can do what I want! I am out, yo.

Keep your head up and enjoy this week!  New weeks means new opportunities! Happy Tuesday!

Daddy's Little Girl.

Happy Father's Day to all the GREAT Dad's out there!

Specifically, Happy Father's Day to my Daddy.

From the moment I arrived into the world, I was a Daddy's girl.  Now at 24, I think I am more of Daddy's girl.

My Dad is the kind of guy that has no enemies and can have no enemies.  He is an encourager, inspirer, lover, and motivator.  He is a devoted husband, present and loving father, hardworking pastor, and incredible friend.  He is accepting of those who feel unaccepted, he is a friend to those who feel friendless.  He is an incredible man of God who has let Him mold, shape, and walk him through the worst of times.

Daddy was always was there to play, laugh, and have fun with.  He would let Sister and I put make-up on his face and bows in his hair.  He would let us show him the new clothes we bought as soon as we ran inside the house and would tell us to get back inside if what we were wearing was inappropriate.  He would always make sure we had one on one time together and still does to this day when I am home.

He was always there to make sure the boys I brought home knew he possessed guns and that he was not afraid to use them if they broke my heart.  My friends loved coming over because my Dad had also become their friend too (my Momma too!).  He made sure that all three of us kids knew that we were and always will be the most important people in his life along with my Momma.  He took the time to discipline us even when it was hard because he cared about us and he wanted to make sure that we learned from our wrongs.

When a girl asks her Dad if this dress looks pretty or if that new hairstyle looks cool, I believe deep down inside we are asking if WE look pretty... If WE look beautiful.  My Daddy was always there to tell me, "You are beautiful".  He was always there to assure Sister and I that we were the most beautiful girls in the world in the midst of our teenage battles with fat days, acne, and stupid boys.

My Momma will be the first to tell you that though I am much like her, I am even more like my Daddy.  We are both talkers, truth seekers, leaders, extroverts, loud mouths, singers, and hard headed at times.  We enjoy deep theological studies and discussion, but we also enjoy a good dance session in the kitchen and a good game of Rummikub.

We have had some of the best times of my life together.  While I loved that Daddy was able to walk me down the aisle and marry Husband and I, I think my most favorite moment ever was our Father Daughter Dance.  We danced to Steven Curtis Chapman's, "Cinderella".  I had so much I wanted to tell my Dad in those few moments I got with him that day, but all we could do is hold each other and cry.  We are such big babies, Daddy! Ha ha!

Daddy,

I'll always be your little girl, your Cinderella.

You were the first man that stole my heart.  You always loved me, always believed in me, and always motivated me to live a full, happy life... And you still do.  You have always been my greatest cheerleader,  you have always been in my corner.

I know I probably do not say it much, but I am thankful for you.  I am thankful God chose you to be my Dad.  Thank you for the sweat, tears, laughter, and years of worry you put into me.  Thank you for being a present father who loves his wife and kids.  Thank you for putting us first before any job or responsibility you had.

Thank you for the Disney trips, driving lessons, dates, conversations, laughter, discipline, Argentina, duets on stage, and even those spankings.  Thank you for the Little Mermaid birthday parties, the prom dresses that were not budgeted for, the moving at just the right times, and the rules that I used to think were so stupid (they weren't).  Thank you for never giving up on me when I already had, thank you for cheering me on even when I thought no one was, thank you for loving me even when I felt unlovable.  Thank you for always making sure I was okay, thank you for preparing me for life, and thank you for allowing God to work through you so that in turn He could work through me.

I love you, Daddy!

Trendy Tuesday 13!

I have decided to start numbering my Trendy Tuesday posts.  I have been debating it for awhile and finally decided to after a friend/co-worker discussed something with me from one of the TT posts... I could not think of which one she was talking about!  Enter the numbering system...

Hopefully your weekend was a good one!  Let's get started...

  1. My Family- This is a picture of my whole family (okay, we are missing a few) at our wedding.  Living away from Texas has made me realize how blessed I was to be close to them while I was.  All of our relationships flourished when we moved closer to them and I am so thankful they are MINE!  Lately, my family has been the biggest encouragement in my life.  I cannot imagine having a another family... I love this crazy, loud, country family God gave me!
  2. Pie in a Jar - Sara and Kate from "Our Best Bites" have such fun recipes and tutorials for pies in a jar.  Can we first just admire how awesome jars are?  Rockin'.  Pie is awesome, pie in a jar must be AWESOME.  In fact, for Father's Day this weekend, I will be making Cherry Pies in a Jar.  Yummy!
  3. Tissue Paper Flowers - Michael Ann over at "Michael Ann Made" is a genius.  How cute are these tissue paper flowers???  Watch out, world... I will be putting these on all the presents we give.  Even if you are a dude.  Cute, crafty, and cheap... Love!
  4. Act of Valor - I love this movie.  It is a difficult, yet amazing movie about a team of Navy SEAL's on a covert mission.  Real SEAL's play the roles in this movie.  If you have not seen it yet, do not miss out.  My two cents:  If your husband is deploying soon, you may want to hold off.  GREAT film!
  5. Old Navy Color-Blocked Dress - I am loving this dress so much that I bought one and it is on its' way to me!!! I am PRAYING that it fits and looks good on me because I want to wear ASAP!  Tell me this is not cute?!  Vibrant colors, figure friendly, and just overall to die for.
Have a happy Tuesday, y'all!

T-Shirt Tanks

Happy weekend!

Last weekend, I decided to take a couple of big t-shirts I had lying around and do something with them!  After scouting out Pinterest for stuff I had not tried before, I decided to make these easy workout tanks from them.  My t-shirts are Large, but Medium would have probably been better for me.  You want a t-shirt that is slightly loose on you... Mine were a bit too big, haha!

Anyway, let's do this!

T-Shirt Tanks

Step One

Grab a slightly loose t-shirt and some scissors.

Spread your t-shirt out on a table.  Try to get everything as even as possible (sleeves, neckline, etc.).

Step Two

Cut sleeves and neck like off.  Get as close to the seam as possible.

You should now have a sleeveless and neckless t-shirt.

Step Three

Once sleeves and neckline are removed, go back to the neckline.  This time, cut about 2-3 inches off.  I started thin and gradually thickened until I hit the middle of the neckline.  Then, I folded it (as seen in the picture) and cut the same on the other side using the first side as an outline almost.

Step Four

Once you have lowered the neckline, turn the shirts upside down to where the back is facing upward.  Cut inward about an inch or two to make the back side of the sleeves are thinner than the front (as seen in the picture).

Step Five

Next, grab a sleeve and measuring an inch wide, cut off t-shirt yarn (like that in the picture).

Grab back sleeves and bring toward middle tying them together with the t-shirt yarn.  Keep wrapping it around until you only have enough to tie a tight knot.

(Sorry, forgot to take a picture of this process, but you can see the tied back sleeves in the end picture.)

BAM!

You got yourself a recycled t-shirt tank.  All you college kids now know what to do with your t-shirts!

I wish I had more t-shirt to do this with!  Guess it is time to stock up on some or rip into Husband's old ones that he does not wear anymore... Hehehe!  Have fun creating!

This tutorial was adapted from Dollars, Sense, & More.

Homemade Magic Shell

Alright...

Who does NOT like Smuckers' Magic Shell?  Well, hopefully none of you fessed up to that because that would just be WRONG!  I mean, I am not a chocolate lover by any means and I LOVE having this on my ice cream!

Want a healthier and cheaper version?  It is your lucky day because I have a recipe!!!

My MIL made it this weekend and I made it last night... So fast, cheap, and easy!  Not too mention deliciously addictive.

Thanks to the hundreds of different people posting these things on Pinterest, I have a keeper.  Normally, I would have the credit for the recipe, but since so many people have put up the same exact recipe on Pinterest, I cannot pinpoint the original.  So, in this case, this came from several GREAT recipes from several different blogs!  Thank you!

Homemade Magic Shell

Ingredients:

  • 1/2 cup of coconut oil (in solid form)
  • 1 1/4 chocolate chips
Directions:

  1. Measure out your chocolate chips and coconut oil, placing them in a microwavable bowl.
  2. Microwave for about 1 minute.  Stir a little and let set so that the chocolate chips can melt in the heat of the oil.
  3. Transfer chocolate liquid to a glass jar.  If not serving immediately, place in refrigerator.
  4. When ready to serve, take off lid and place glass jar in the microwave for about 30 seconds.  Once it has returned to liquid form, pour onto ice cream and watch it harden into a delicious chocolate shell!
  5. Enjoy!

Semi-sweet chocolate chips are probably best, but that is up to you!  You could even try the more organic, wholesome chocolate too to keep it a bit more on the healthy side.

Try not to get TOO addicted now... :)

Let Me Be Honest...

Let me get my rant out of the way...

For two days, I had the stomach flu.  Terrible, disgusting, and hardcore stomach flu.  I went to work Monday morning and about 10am started feeling nauseated and sweaty (yep, I am going to get a little graphic, folks).  By 11am, the bathroom was my best friend, a fever had overtaken me, and customers began to get mad at me for disappearing every twenty minutes... By 12pm, I was on my way home and getting ready to see my doctor.

At about 2pm, I saw my doctor who tested me for the flu, sinus infection, stomach flu, and pregnancy.  It was only two out of those four possibilities... Stomach flu and sinus infection.

After a morning of "Are you pregnant?" and "Morning sickness sucks, doesn't it?" from coworkers, friends, and family, I am quite fed up.

Does the whole world have to think and ask a woman if she is pregnant when nausea, vomiting, and a fever set in?  I mean, really?  Can we just be sick without that speculation circling all over creation?

No... For the millionth time, I am not been pregnant, I never have been, and I will not be for quite some time. It is so very annoying to have to answer that question over and over again alongside the age old, "When are y'all planning on having babies?".

Let me be honest for a minute...

Husband and I have prayed so hard for children.  Our hearts ache and desire for babies, lots of babies.  There have been times where I thought I was pregnant only to find out I was not- the pain and disappointment that followed is not something I wish to keep reliving.  Though happiness and joy should be felt when a new life is being formed, tears and pain tend to overtake those feelings when someone else around me is expecting.

On the outside, we may seem fine.  But on the inside, we are fighting an inward battle filled with sadness, pain, and weariness.  I feel it more than he.  I am a woman, I should be able to give my husband the children he desires... But for some reason, I cannot.

Questions keep me up many nights...

"Why not me?"
"Why are they getting a baby when they cannot even provide for it?"
"Why are women who do not even want to be pregnant having babies, but I am aching for just one and cannot have any?"
"Why do we have to try without any luck or hope, but everyone else does not even try and in turn, end up pregnant?"

Honestly, when my doctor did test me for pregnancy, I was almost hoping she would come back and say, "You are pregnant!".  I almost started planning how I would tell Husband that day.  Oh, and my sister would be so ecstatic!  Momma and Daddy would be so happy too!

But, when she came back in and did not even mention the pregnancy test, I felt a deep pain in my heart.  Another disappointment after hoping ever so faintly that it would be true.

While we were dating and discussing marriage, we decided that after about five years of marriage we would then start a family.  However, the itch to have children hit suddenly and now all we want is a house full of kids.  Would it be wiser to wait?  Maybe.  Is now a good time?  Probably not.  Does any of that really matter?  Not one bit.

We know God has a set plan for us.  We know that somehow, some way, we will have children.  He knows the desires of our hearts and he knows our relentless prayers for those desires.  He works everything out when He sees it fit and right now, it is not that time.  Maybe one day soon it will be.

The joy I would feel to finally be able to say, "Yes".

I have prayed about whether or not I should share our current struggle, but after these past few days it became clear to me that I needed a little release.  The inner battle will still continue with both Husband and I (if it did not, we would not be human!).  But here is our heart.  Here is our struggle.

God will bless us with a family at some point in our lives.  And as much as we both want it now, we will be patient, hopeful, and place full trust in God's Hands.  This was not written for pity, sympathy, or empathy.  This was written as a release for me, for us.  This was written because maybe this will connect with someone else.  This was written because this is our life right now... A struggle that we are faced with on a daily basis. An experience that we wish we were not going through but at the same time are embracing.  A fight that is teaching us to rely on God and on each other.

Thanks for letting me be honest with you!
----

Update:

Though comments are none, I do want to thank all of the women who have emailed, messaged, and called me.  I am humbled, blessed, overwhelmed, and encouraged by each and everyone of you.

Our battle has become more difficult this past week.  Details will remain unwritten, but hope remains still.  To those in whom we have entrusted this detailed information, we ask that you please respect our privacy... Thank you!

As we continue this long road ahead and continue to hope and pray for children one day, we fight alongside all those who are experiencing the same thing.  You are not alone... Pray without ceasing and keep on believing and hoping.  God is bigger!

Trendy Tuesday!

Hey there!

Somehow, Tuesday seems to always roll around way too quickly.  I mean, these weeks are flying by... Do you feel the same?

Let's get this show on the road, folks...

  1. Mary Kay's Creme Lipstick - My favorite lip color? MK's Creme Lipstick in Dusty Rose!  I love, love, LOVE it!  In fact, I have received SO many compliments on it... It is crazy!  I have NEVER been a lipstick girl (or gloss either, just Chapstick), but this is so creamy and smooth with such luscious color that it is hard to pass up!  I also LOVE (I say that word a lot, huh?) being an Independent Beauty Consultant for such a GREAT company!
  2. Smuckers' Magic Shell - As a kid, I grew up in Argentina.  When we came to the USA to visit and when we moved back, there was always one thing we looked forward to... Going to Memaw's house!  She always made sure there was Jello, ice cream, whipped cream, sprinkles, and Magic Shell on hand.  My favorite?  Magic Shell with a side of ice cream and sprinkles.  Yep, I would put a little bit of ice cream and LOAD on the chocolate (funny, I love this, but hate chocolate... Why?).  So bad for you, but so good! (Stay tuned for a homemade version of this coming this week!)
  3. Baseball Games - There is just something about summer and baseball games.  It is like they were meant to go together!  Last Thursday night, we took our nephew to a game and really enjoyed it (thanks to a friend for FREE tickets!).  That kid... Oh, I love that Nephew.  Every year, my husband's family gets tickets for the July 4th game because they always do such AMAZING firework shows!  Seriously, Husband and I always get teary eyed near the end when they crank out the BIG fireworks and good ole American songs to set the mood- and boy, it sure does.  It's great!  Love summer, love baseball!
  4. Summer Salads - Coastal Living has come up with deeeeeeelicious salads for the summer!  From watermelon to steak to shrimp to different greens... These all look so incredibly appetizing that my mouth is nearly watering (okay, not right now considering I have the stomach flu and food looks nasty to me at the moment).  Cannot wait to try these!
  5. DIY Wall Art - Jess over at "Make and Do Girl" has put together a simple, fun, and creative tutorial for cheap wall art that looks fantastic!  I love taking happy and positive quotes EVERYWHERE, so this is going to have to happen!  Look how cute they all look?!  If you are crafty like me, this is bound to be FUN!  Let's do it!
Have a lovely day, y'all!
